Statement
In my art I translate personal observations, feelings, and inspirations, into universal, expressive visual representations. I use layers of paint, line and mark making, color, pattern and texture to evoke emotions and to provoke observation and awareness of the world around us and inside us.
I work in abstract designs, which allow for multiple and layered metaphors and meanings, as well as minimal realism, which provides a more direct understanding of a topic.
Most of the work on the website is for sale — I’m adding prices, but please contact me if you see a piece you’d like to check on!
Bio
I am a Chicago-based abstract painter whose work is inspired by both nature and urban life, influenced by empathy and emotion, and grounded in concerns about the world we live in.
I’ve been painting in both acrylics and oils for 30+ years, spending more time on art after a career in technology and raising a family. I use multiple layers of paint to provide history and depth, embedding the surface with texture, mark making, lines, motion, and deep colors to enhance the complexity of minimal compositions. I’ve studied abstract oil & cold wax painting under Rebecca Crowell and Jerry McLaughlin. I also make mosaics, collages and take photographs.
When not in my studio, I am usually outside: walking, birding, kayaking or gardening. I also design websites and write about birds.
